Contouring allows you to define your bone structure and can be a great way to take years off of your age just by using makeup tricks. Contouring might allow you to shape your face in the most appealing way, but there is an art to it. Before you give contouring a try, you need to know how contouring works and what the process entails.

Here are the easiest tips to follow when contouring your face in order to appear younger:

Use Two Base Shades

The biggest thing that you need to remember when you are contouring your face is that you are trying to create cheekbones that are more defined and angles that make you appear younger. Instead having sagging skin, you want the appearance of defined shape. This is only done through the use of two shades of base. This means that you need to work with one foundation that is lighter than your natural skin tone and one that is a few shades darker. When you are contouring, you should not be using a base that actually matches your skin tone. The lighter base should be applied around the center of your face and the darker base can be dotted along the perimeter of your face.

Blending

The secret to contouring is all in the blending. After you have dotted on the two different base shades, you need to blend them together. It is important that you invest in a contouring brush that will allow for the best results. Having a high quality brush can dramatically improve how well you can blend the two shades and allow you to create a really flawless look. By blending the two shades together, you have the ability to create the illusion that you have more depth and dimension on your face, which will enable you to appear much younger.

Highlighting

  2. So what 2 items are you using to contour?Sorry I know that sounds silly But is it a bronzer or foundation?

    • Hello,Rebecca! I hope this is the right information you are looking for: “This is (contouring) only done through the use of two shades of base. This means that you need to work with one FOUNDATION that is lighter than your natural skin tone and one that is a few shades darker. When you are contouring, you should not be using a base that actually matches your skin tone. 3. Which do you use first , conceal or highlight ? I have been using conceal for puffy eyes ( fat sacs always there) or should I high light ?

  4. When you contour are you using a powder? It says to blend with a brush?

    • Hello, Phoebe! The accent falls on high quality brush which can dramatically improve how well you can blend the two shades (of foundations) and allow you to create a really flawless look. You can use a powder depends on your preferences and desirable look but it is not mandatory!

  5. I’m still confused! If you use two shades of foundation to contour (one darker than your natural shade and one lighter), then why do you say put foundation on after? Is your foundation not already on because you’ve been using it to contour?

    • Hello, Laura! Read only the information we gave you! You have to use two shades of foundation (one darker than your natural shade and one suitable for your skin tone) to contour! That is enough and correct!

  7. So…the foundations that you used; were they a powder or a cream base? If they are a cream based foundation, do you use powder after? Normally I do a cc cream then a powder on top to “set” it. I want to try this, but have never used a cream foundation with out finishing it with powder. Thank you!

    • Hello, Violet! I have ever said, depends on your preferences. If you use cream based foundation, you can “set” it with powder. If you use powder foundation, I think it will be enough for your appearance. Hope this helps!
